Who do we fund?

We fund Queensland school sports kids in need so they can play their chosen sport!

This means:

  • Families of students facing Financial Hardship i.e. the nominee’s family must hold a current:
    • Low Income Health Care
    • Concession Card or
    • Foster Health Care Card,
  • Families of students facing Financial Hardship due to the remoteness of their residential address
  • Students with Disabilities and Chronic Illness
  • Families facing an impactful short term circumstance and needing a one off Hand Up funding assistance
  • An A4K Scholarship i.e. longer term funding to support a student in need with their sporting career. Please note – Only one Scholarship funded annually

We fund 21 different Queensland School Sports in all 12 Sports Regions

Criteria for Financial or Remote Hardship

Please Note: Applications can only be submitted through the nominee’s school by the school principal or their school representative.

 

Criteria Hardship – Financial

  • The Student’s Family / Care Giver must be able to demonstrate evidence of current financial hardship
  • The Family must hold a current
    • Low Income Health Care,
    • Concession Card or
    • Foster Health Care Card.
  • The Application must be supported with a written testimonial that demonstrates extenuating circumstances of the current financial barriers that directly impact on the nominee participating in current QSS Sport and QSS Sporting events. (Link to application page)
  • The Nominee must demonstrate a high level of good behaviour, attendance at school and an ongoing commitment to regular training and participation in their sport.
  • The Principal of the school must endorse the application as a true record of the nominee’s circumstances.

Criteria Hardship – Remote

  • The Student’s Family / Care Giver must be able to demonstrate evidence of current financial hardship due to the remoteness of the nominee’s residential address.(e.g. extra mileage for distance travelled to attend training and the QSS sporting event, enforced reduction in parent’s working hours to support the training and competition needs of the nominee etc.)
  • The Application must be supported with a written testimonial that demonstrates extenuating circumstances of how the nominee is disadvantaged, what remote conditions the nominee encounters and how this directly impacts on their capacity to participate in current QSS Sport and QSS Sporting events.
  • The Nominee must demonstrate a high level of behaviour, attendance at school and an ongoing commitment to regular training and participation in their sport.
  • The Principal of the school must endorse the application as a true record of the nominee’s circumstances.

Criteria for Disabilities and Chronic Illness

  • The Nominee must have a medically recognised and / or diagnosed disability or chronic illness. This must be supported with evidence of the disability sport classification or chronic illness or impending classification from an approved authority
  • The Application must be supported with a written testimonial that demonstrates extenuating circumstances that the nominee faces due to their disability or chronic illness and how this directly impacts on their capacity to participate in current QSS Sport and QSS Sporting events.
  • The Principal of the school must endorse the application as a true record of the nominee’s circumstances.

Criteria for A4K Scholarship

 

Please Note:    One (1)  A4k Scholarship is issued in any one calendar year. To be considered for this an A4K Scholarship, the applicant must be a previous recipient of A4K funding assistance AND demonstrate the below attributes.

All decisions are made at the discretion of the A4K Board

  • The Applicant must be able to demonstrate evidence of facing current hardship through unique challenges and can demonstrate exceptional initiative, teamwork (where applicable), sportsmanship and fair play.
  • The Application must be supported with a written testimonial that demonstrates unique circumstances of the nominee and how they have overcome adversity to still play their chosen sport. Such examples may include but not be limited to:
    • disaster,
    • their recognised disability,
    • chronic or serious illness,
    • death or incapacity of a family member,
    • fractured family structure or
    • substantial long term financial barriers that directly impact on the nominee participating currently and into the future
  • The Nominee must demonstrate an exceptional level of behaviour, attendance at school and an ongoing commitment to regular training and participation in their sport.
  • The Principal of the school must endorse the application as a true record of the nominee’s circumstances.

Criteria for Hand Up

    • The Applicant must be able to demonstrate evidence of current, short term, highly impactful circumstances that have caused financial hardship or overt distress to the family.
    • The Application must be supported with a written testimonial that demonstrates extenuating circumstances of the current financial barriers that directly impact on the nominee participating in current QSS sport and QSS Sporting events.
    • The Principal of the school must endorse the application as a true record of the nominee’s circumstances.

    Examples may include but not be limited to:

    • temporary loss of employment,
    • chronic health issues facing the primary caregiver,
    • extenuating home / domestic issues
